On Friday the 18th January, Off The Wall Squash hosted the Winter Essex School Games at the Colchester Garrison.

The School games is a multi-sport event which sees schools around Essex competing at Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis and Squash all on the same day. Essex is one of the very few counties to include squash in their School Games and Off The Wall Squash have run this event on behalf of Active Essex for the 4th consecutive year.

Teams are made up of 2 girls and 2 boys playing 1 game to 11 with sudden death at 10-10. It’s a round Robin tournament and every point is added up to create your team’s total. We were delighted to see that 15 teams took part in their year’s event, with 60 smiling faces and cheers bouncing off the walls, the atmosphere is always electric with teams often winning by only a couple of points!

In the Year 5 tournament there were teams from Ardleigh, Elmstead, Felsted, Mersea and Lawford, whilst in Year 6 we saw Colchester High & Highfields enter teams along with the aforementioned.

Off The Wall Squash have a fantastic Primary School Squash Programme and it continues to grow year on year. We love seeing so many faces from this programme competing, (and what a great reflection of the work OTWS is doing in North Essex) but we’d also love to see some more teams from the south of the county for next year’s tournament.

So schools and coaches, if you’d like information on how you can get involved, or are interested in starting a Primary School Squash Programme at your school, please contact us on: admin@offthewallsquash.co.uk or 01206 736924.
